Thrill On The Hill 2019
Join the Morgan Motor Company for Morgan themed entertainment and celebration as we mark 110 years of the marque at Thrill On The Hill 2019. Following the success and feedback of the 2018 event, TOTH will be returning to Prescott Hill Climb in Gloucestershire where visitors will have the opportunity to drive the famous hill climb in their Morgan. Don’t have a Morgan? Don’t worry! We will be offering passenger rides in a factory car. More details can be found if you click here.
Pickersleigh 3
Starting from the factory in Malvern there will be a cavalcade of Morgan Three-Wheelers going to Prescott. Start time is usually around 8am, it’s free to enter and includes a parade run up the hill at lunchtime on the event.
Here are some details about the next Swarkestone scenic run which will take you through some beautiful areas of Derbyshire and the towns of Ashbourne, Buxton, Bakewell & Matlock. The long range weather forecast is looking good too!
- 9:30 Meet at John Jackson’s garden centre, south of Derby [DE73 7GQ]. Have a cuppa if time allows.
- 10:00 Depart.
- 10:45 The first stop will be to take a tour of Tom Cowley’s three wheeler restoration workshops [DE6 1LL]. Following this we will drive through Ashbourne to….
- 11:35 A brief stop at the tea rooms in the pretty village of Tissington [DE6 1RA] and then a splash through Tissington Ford (assuming that waters aren’t too high…)
- 12:35 Lunch stop in Buxton. Parking in Pavillion Gardens [SK17 9AR]. We are suggesting having lunch at Simply Thai which comes highly recommended. Many other eateries are available. After lunch there will be a little time to explore Buxton and it’s many interesting shops.
- 14:10 Leave Buxton and follow the A6 through Bakewell & Matlock and on to the beautiful Via Gellia road.
- 14:55 Middleton Top Engine House [DE4 4LS]. An impressive 1829 winding engine that should be ‘in steam’ at the time of our visit.
Please let Andrew Warren ([email protected]) know if you are planning to come and especially if you are interested in lunch at the Thai restaurant so that we can book the necessary tables.
Following on from the successful July day, another event of breakfast and socialising at Swarkestone Nursery and Garden Centre will be followed by a scenic run including Ashbourne, Buxton and Bakewell and a visit of interest – of which more anon when plans finalise! Led by John Jackson and Andy Warren.
John & Suzanne who now own their long standing family business are club members and so you can be sure of a very warm welcome and a top class breakfast made with locally sourced ingredients at the Nursery Restaurant.
All are welcome to this new and hopefully regular meeting irrespective of how many gears you have.

Like the best books, a Morgan run needs a good beginning, an interesting middle and a great ending. Our Sculpture Run to the Royal Horticultural Society gardens at Wisley on Sunday 8th September will be just that. The start is from Shere, the picturesque and quintessential English village in Surrey. The William Bray pub is close to the crystal-clear river Tillingbourne famous for its watercress beds and trout stream. The scenic run with some wonderful views, is about 12 miles on quiet lanes used for the Olympic cycle road race in 2012. At the gardens, in addition to the wonderful summer borders and stunning glasshouse you can see sculpture by Henry Moore, Tracey Emin and none other than our former Chairman Michael Joseph. For a sneaky preview see www.mjartist.com You might even find a Morgan or two in there.

BREAKING NEWS… Leamington Spa to replace Silverstone on the Sporting Calendar for the 2019 MTWC Grand Prix/Rally/AGM!
Listen carefully! Can you hear the throb of V Twins at high revs, and scent the unique aroma of Castrol D in your nostrils? It’s going to be a great event. The cars are now out of the pit lane; they’ve finished the parade lap and are now lining up on the grid. There are some new entrants for this exciting 2019 event at Spa as well as some old hands. And, yes, YOU can join them!
We’re going straight over to the commentary box to join Murray Walker. Murray, what’s happening?
“You join me with 3 of the red starting lights lit, but there are some drivers yet to join the grid! It’s not too late to enter. But it soon will be! Cars are still coming out of the pit lane! Anything can happen at Morgrand (sic) Prix Rallies, and it usually does”. One light, two lights, three lights, four lights, five lights and it’s GO, GO, GO, GO!… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0TZ_YLQSgg
And with that, it’s back to the studio”!
Thanks, Murray!
The Rally organisers are looking forward to a large entry of “teams and cars” at the Spa in Leamington, and bringing with them an interesting collection of Morgans! Where’s yours?! Parking won’t be a problem. There’s plenty of room for trikes, tin tops and trailers.”
If you haven’t booked yet – DO IT NOW – please send your Booking Form for the Rally and AGM, along with your cheque for the Dinner (£32pp). No need to pay for accommodation until you check out.
