Swarkestone 2 – Run for the Dales – Sunday August 25th

Here are some details about the next Swarkestone scenic run which will take you through some beautiful areas of Derbyshire and the towns of Ashbourne, Buxton, Bakewell & Matlock. The long range weather forecast is looking good too!

  • 9:30 Meet at John Jackson’s garden centre, south of Derby [DE73 7GQ]. Have a cuppa if time allows.
  • 10:00 Depart.
  • 10:45 The first stop will be to take a tour of Tom Cowley’s three wheeler restoration workshops [DE6 1LL]. Following this we will drive through Ashbourne to….
  • 11:35 A brief stop at the tea rooms in the pretty village of Tissington [DE6 1RA] and then a splash through Tissington Ford (assuming that waters aren’t too high…)
  • 12:35 Lunch stop in Buxton. Parking in Pavillion Gardens [SK17 9AR]. We are suggesting having lunch at Simply Thai which comes highly recommended. Many other eateries are available. After lunch there will be a little time to explore Buxton and it’s many interesting shops.
  • 14:10 Leave Buxton and follow the A6 through Bakewell & Matlock and on to the beautiful Via Gellia road.
  • 14:55 Middleton Top Engine House [DE4 4LS]. An impressive 1829 winding engine that should be ‘in steam’ at the time of our visit.
Full suggested route directions will be provided and 3 Wheelers of all ages are welcome. Feel free to join or leave the group at any time and place that suits you. I understand that a number of the older three wheelers will be meeting at Cowley Restorations before joining the run.

You will need £3.60 in loose change for car parks. Entry to the Middleton Engine House is £2.80 (£1.35 concessions).

Please let Andrew Warren ([email protected]) know if you are planning to come and especially if you are interested in lunch at the Thai restaurant so that we can book the necessary tables.

Sculpture Run Poster 8 9 19

Like the best books, a Morgan run needs a good beginning, an interesting middle and a great ending. Our Sculpture Run to the Royal Horticultural Society gardens at Wisley on Sunday 8th September will be just that. The start is from Shere, the picturesque and quintessential English village in Surrey. The William Bray pub is close to the crystal-clear river Tillingbourne famous for its watercress beds and trout stream. The scenic run with some wonderful views, is about 12 miles on quiet lanes used for the Olympic cycle road race in 2012. At the gardens, in addition to the wonderful summer borders and stunning glasshouse you can see sculpture by Henry Moore, Tracey Emin and none other than our former Chairman Michael Joseph. For a sneaky preview see www.mjartist.com You might even find a Morgan or two in there.
