Albert Ball Memorial Run 5th – 8th May 2022
After a 2 year Covid induced break we are back on for our Albert Ball Memorial Run. 2022 is the 105th anniversary of Capt Ball’s demise and we have been invited to take part in a commemoration event at the Collège Albert Ball in Annoeullin. They are working on their event schedule so more details will be available in due course.
The plan is to keep to our normal routine of the main group meeting at the Premier Inn Ashford Eureka Park on the Thur night ready for the Eurotunnel crossing to France Friday morning.
The 08:20 Eurotunnel gets us into Calais at 09:55 (local). It’s then about 75 miles / 2 hours to Annoeullin so we should be able to get to the college by around 12:00 – 12:30
Assuming we are at the college on Fri then after we’ve finished we’ll head off for the Flanders Lodge in Ypres (approx. 30 miles / 1hr away).
There is a major “Festival of the Cats” in Ypres that weekend so for the Sat there should be lots to do in town and we can also suggest some driving tours. We have the opportunity to lay a wreath during the Menin Gate Last Post at 20:00 and will book dinner afterwards.
Sunday – morning activity tbc and then return by Eurotunnel that evening.
For those who want to stay with the group to make it a longer trip I’ve planned an optional 3 nights in Bruge, hopefully at the Flanders Hotel which is in the city centre and has car parking.
So, in summary:
Thur 5th May: Premier Inn Ashford Eureka Park
Fri 6th May: 08:20 Eurotunnel to Calais
Drive to Annoeullin for College event
Drive to Ypres – Flanders Lodge Hotel
Sat 7th May Ypres town / local drive out etc.
Sun 8th May TBA morning activity
Lunch – venue TBA
Eurotunnel to Folkstone (I suggest aiming for the 17:50 train)
For those taking the optional Add-on to Brugge:
Sun 8th May Additional night at Flanders Lodge, Ypres
Mon 9th May Drive to Brugge – Flanders Hotel (tbc)
Tue 10th & Wed 11th May: In and around Brugge
Thur 12th May Leisurely drive to Calais with lunch en-route and then Eurotunnel to Folkstone (again aiming for the 17:50 train)
