VSCC Autumn Sprint - Rockingham - 21st October

VSCC Autumn Sprint – Rockingham – 21st October 2017

A brand new venue for the VSCC, Rockingham was set to be a great venue for the Autumn Sprint, with an exciting Sprint Circuit and excellent venue facilities. Three MTWC Members in Super Aeros turned out for the event.

The VSCC Autumn Sprint was originally due to take place at Goodwood. The Rockingham Raceway Sprint Circuit made for an excellent alternative. An interesting course with testing corners plus good paddock facilities.

Three club members took part in their two speeder Super Aeros:

  • Sue Darbyshire was campaigning the road-going black Super Aero.
  • Simon Edwards was in his dark green Super Aero
  • Iain Stewart raced his well-campaigned Super Aero.
A report from Iain Stewart:

The VSCC normally hold their “end of season” Sprint at the Goodwood Circuit. This year and for the first time ever, the Autumn sprint was held at the Rockingham Speedway. The course used was on the National Sprint Circuit, which is 1.33 miles long. There were three Morgan 3 wheelers entered: Simon Edwards in class-2, Iain Stewart in Class-3 and Sue Darbyshire in Class-14. Admission was free for spectators and a few Morgan enthusiasts turned up to cheer us on. The paddock facilities were very good with garages being available for shelter. The in-field track was absolutely brilliant to drive on although not so good for spectating from the paddock. There were massive grandstands outside the oval (but with my eyesight – I would probably need to use a telescope).  It was very windy all day with occasional spots of rain.  All three of the Morgans performed extremely well and each one won came first in its respective class. As this is the first time the VSCC have used this track, the three Morgans also set three new records. On an even happier note – all the Morgans were still running at the end of the day.
