MTWC Curborough 30th June 2012

Some words from Pete Clews:

“A very successful Curborough Sprint with some notable times. The day turned out to be sunny and warm with just one shower at the end of the first timed run.

“The entry was good with some faces from the past appearing on the circuit again. Martyn Baylis brought his untried 1930 Super Aero for its proving run, which it completed successfully. Mike Guess took his 1932 Aero round and has a very good video record of it so he can spend winter evenings analysing his performance! Trevor Gill and son James brought their beautiful 1933 Super Sports JAP and 1936 Super Sports MX2 respectively and both had notable success. Rob Pike and son Joe both entered in their 1928 Super Aero which Joe had not driven before so all credit to him for his 53.82 against his dad’s 49.42. We need such enthusiastic youngsters to keep their parents on their toes! The Standard Class was won by Chris Harfield . John Minns had driven down in his 1927 Aero JAP.

“The TM Class was very hard fought with Tony Quinn pipping Matt Orford by 3 tenths of a second. Roger Orford came third. Racing Class was taken by Hamish Bibby ahead of Bill Tuer, competing at Curborough for the first time in 25 years. Alistair Rew was in cracking form in equal third place with 39.52 which breaks Dave Caroline’s record for a two speeder (39.63) set in 1996. Tim Gray shared third having rebuilt his 8/80 the night before the event. The racing F-Types saw Pete Clews achieve 43. 39 ahead of an out-of-sorts Dave Hodgson.

“Mention needs to be made of a certain Ann Harfield who made herself very available as a passenger circulating many, many times. What would we do without such dedication! The competition between Groups for the best representation of both entrants and spectators was won by the YND Group with a total of 328 points from the North West Group with 289. Third place went to the West Midlands Group with 145 points. Dave Hodgson accepted the award for the YND Group.”
