Run for the Hills

Saturday 26th August and Sunday 27th August 2017

Quite a few of us met up in Great Malvern on the Friday night and enjoyed an Indian Banquet which set the tone for the weekend ahead.
An early start was needed on Saturday to be at the Morgan factory for 08:30 to join in the cavalcade leaving the factory and doing a scenic tour to reach the Three Counties Showground.  On our arrival at the factory we found many people already there. Free tea/coffee and sticky buns were kindly provided by the Morgan Factory. As usual there was lots of time to catch up and chat to people and it was a great atmosphere.

After a welcome from MD Steve Morris we set off in a long convoy with the film crew up front.  Around 55 Morgan Three Wheelers ranging from 1929 to the present day made an amazing sight as we wound our way up through Great Malvern and into the glorious countryside that surrounds the area. Soon we were at a surprisingly good pace and it was good that we kept fairly well together for the excellent scenic run devised by Bill Higginson.
All too soon we reached the Three Counties Showground and hundreds were lined along the entrance road to welcome us.  A couple of laps of the arena for good measure ensured that everyone present got a chance to see the three wheelers en masse.

Cavalcade over we went over to where Maria and I with the help of Gerald Lawford were running the club stand. It took some time to set up and soon we had a steady flow of visitors.  Maria was kept busy selling Regalia and signing up new members as well as chatting to club members.  Our Club Stand feature was Captain Albert Ball VC.  We had a special display banner and Brian Clutterbuck kindly brought his 1913 Morgan Grand Prix as part of the display.  We invited Gordon and Vanda Day to be our guests for the day as relatives of Albert Ball and managed a great photo shoot with them, the Morgan Grand Prix and a 1916 Bristol Scout Bi-Plane.

After a great day at the event we got freshened up and took up space in the local Wetherspoons for beer and food that evening.  A great social evening and good beer and food.  Sunday morning and a little later starting out to get to the showground.  Once again we had a great day with good weather and lots of UK and Overseas members visited the club stand.

Summing up the weekend, was it worth it ?
A big yes from the point of meeting up with everyone again both at the event and in the evening. Socially it was a great weekend.
A big yes as Maria once again sold lots of Regalia stock.( helped by Gerald)          £665 of stock actually.
A big yes as we had lots of interest in joining the club and Maria signed up several over the weekend too.

It was a great weekend of fun, food and alcohol and the lovely smell of “R”
Thank you to Morgan Motor Co for their massive efforts in putting on the event and inviting us.
Ian, Maria and Gerald.
