Back in March 2013, we published a little article “The Ultimate Barn Finds” about Brian Dowding’s discovery of a nest of Morgans in Zimbabwe. Two of these Morgans, Brian’s 1918 Grand Prix and his 1923 De Luxe took to the road in November, in the Cape Morgan Owners annual get-together. They met up with Ronnie Herzfeld in his new Five Speeder.

News and photos from Brian and Sue Dowding:

Every year the Cape Morgan Group hold an annual get together of Morganeers. Although predominantly from the Western Cape, we have regular attendees from Johannesburg and Natal, and even the UK. This year it was our turn to host them in our special little niche of the Cape called the Garden Route.

Although it has traditionally been a four wheel affair, we have had guest appearances from time to time from Geoff Sturges and his ’34 three wheeler. This year though, was slightly different, with no less than 3 three wheelers showing off and reminding them where it all started. With the ’23 De Luxe now finally upholstered and running (not far at this stage) we were able to show both the ’18 Grand Prix and ’23 De Luxe in more or less final trim alongside the first appearance of Ronnie Herzfeld’s new Five Speeder. The site chosen for this guest appearance was at a venue called villa Castollini overlooking the Knysna Lagoon.

The week saw us touring the Garden Route, getting lost in a maze, visiting the world’s largest free flight Aviary, Hurtling through the canopy of our indigenous forest on Ziplines, exploring the mountains in a fascinating  rail inspection car, watching whales breeching in the ocean and many more memorable events, with a fair smattering of good food, Cape wine and much bonhomie.
