Jun 7 – Jun 10 all-day

Hotel now fully booked.

Goggles and Gauntlets is at Le Strange Arms Hotel in Old Hunstanton Norfolk with a campsite nearby for the campers amongst us. Bookings will be taken from 1st Jan 2018. First recce is done, we plan a visit to Krazy Horse Morgan as part of a run out with an alternative venue available. Maria and I met with the guys at Krazy Horse and after chatting have something special planned for our visit. There is an airfield on the agenda which is really interesting.  The whole weekend is looking really exciting, however as the hotel is right on the beach we shall be laying aside some time for relaxing as well as some beach games ! So pack your cossies and get ready for a hoot of a weekend.

West Midlands MG Car Club Victory Trail @ Near J3 of the M42
Jun 10 all-day

In the late 1920’s the Birmingham Motorcycle Club ran a competitive event around the roads, lanes and tracks of Worcestershire entitled ‘The Victory Trial’ for Motorcycles, Combinations, Cyclecars and Cars. What we now call a Reliability Trial.

The event is still run for ‘gymnastic’ motorcyclists, but not around here. 90 years ago the route went from South Birmingham to West and South Worc’s and back via a loop via Wythall, Weatheroak,Waseley, Clent, Abberley, Alfrick, Worcester, Lickey, Portway and Wythall.

On Sunday 10th June 2018 the MG Car Club – Midland Centre will hold a non- competitive Classic Car Run for Edwardian, Vintage, Historic and Classic Cars and Cyclecars plus later Sports Cars, that follows as closely as possible and ‘Trails’ the ‘Trial’ of 1928, using only tarmaced roads. Hence the name and play on words

The original start and finish was at The Kings Heath Horse Showground – long gone! The route is basically a big loop, so we will start and finish where the loop comes together at Wythall, South of Birmingham. Near J3,M42.

Most of the 1928 observed hills are now tarmaced roads that we can and do use. There are about 5 that aren’t and some of the entrances/exits can be viewed as we pass by, as noted in the Route Book for interest.

There will be no awards as it is a non-competitive event, however successful finishers will receive a Finisher’s Certificate.

Entry Forms are now available on our website www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgccmidlandcentre or as attached below.

look in ‘Events’.

I am told that the full route for the run will be about 140 miles but there is an option to reduce this to under 100 miles(or you could just abandon the route and go home!).

I have attached the regs and entry form in case you are tempted….

North West Group Buttermere Camping Weekend

Graham Chivrall and Keith Lyndsell at the foot of Hardknott Pass many years ago. Graham now lives in France and Keith has moved to New Zealand.

Over half a century ago, a few hardy club members ventured north to the lovely English Lake District to sample the delights of camping at Mike Kyle’s Farm in Buttermere.

Ever since then, a tradition has grown and continued and the 2018 event takes place over the weekend of 22nd – 24th June.

Some of the original members are still hardy enough to camp in the field reserved specifically for our three wheelers. Others prefer the comfort of one of the local hotels, The Fish Inn or The Bridge Inn. No matter where you decide to stay, you’ll be made welcome for a weekend of frivolity, frothy beer and food.

Club Training Day

On Saturday 30th June the club will be holding the fourth Training Day at Bicester Heritage Centre. The place has undergone significant modernisation since we were last there. We have hired the circuit for the day and will have a range of Morgan Three Wheelers, including some racers from the Sporting Section for you to drive under the supervision of the owners. As there will be Morgans from the 1920’s through to the latest five speeders this event will have appeal to everyone.

Club Training DayPerhaps you are looking to buy one but are unsure about which model, or you may have an interest in racing and wish to try a racing Morgan. There may also be people who need to brush up on their crash gearbox/hand throttle skills and they will be catered for too. The Event opens at 0900 with signing on for drivers from 0830. Driving experiences are from 0930 to 1230 with a lunch stop of one hour, recommencing at 1330 to 1630 with a short mid afternoon break.  Catering is by Mrs Bishops Vintage Food Van who will be on site from 0830 serving breakfast rolls, quality tea and coffee through to a superb lunch menu into the afternoon.

Club Training Day

During the morning there will be two behind the scenes tours of this historical site which will be of interest and many of the vintage vehicle restoration businesses on site will be open too.  All those coming in Morgan Three Wheelers will park in the paddock where all the action is.  Entry to this occasion is by pre- booking only and the way to do this is by contacting Maria at [email protected] or calling 01823 277852. To book for the days driving experience driving your choice of Morgans will cost £25 per person.  If you wish to just come for the atmosphere  there are limited spaces for this at a cost of £6 per person.  This must be pre-booked but there will then be no driving on offer on the day.

A group of us are staying in Burford for the weekend.  Because of the MSCC event happening nearby, accommodation is scarce so get in touch with Maria if you wish to be with us. She has hotel and campsite details available – all are filling fast.
