Another brilliant Great North Closing Run in Cumbria! Travel to Crooklands hotel was rather wet, thanks to Storm Amy, and slightly problematic car-wise for some, but all arrived safely and in time for dinner on Friday and a catch up with everyone, lots of food, drink and chat.

There were great runs out on Saturday and Sunday with visits to the Sharphouse’s amazing steam engineering enterprise which is restoring and repairing/maintaining steam engines and developing a range of new projects (now home of the Fowler company), Stott Park Bobbin mill, a steam-driven mill which was powered up specially to show us the full process, and the Millerbeck Light railway in the private grounds of Millerbeck house.

Thanks to Steve and Val Hughes, Mary and Peter Pattinson and Roger Harrison for organising such a great event, so good to meet up with everyone, get out and about in the cars in beautiful countryside and visit such interesting places!

Full report in next month’s Bulletin (Lancs and Lakes report).
